Roopa Thakur, MD, Medical Director, Lead-Free Ohio, American Academy of Pediatrics
Dr. Thakur is a practicing pediatrician at the Cleveland Clinic. She serves as Associate Program Director of the Pediatric Residency Program, Medical Director of School-Based Health Clinics, and Medical Director of Youth Strategies for Cleveland Clinic Community Health and Partnership. She earned her medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed her post-graduate training at the Cleveland Clinic. As Medical Director for the Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics Lead-Free Ohio Program, she works with the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and serves as a physician representative on the Lead-Free Advisory Committee. She has participated in the Cuyahoga County Board of Health’s Healthy Homes Advisory Council (HHAC), Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition's (LCSS) Policy Committee, and Better Health Partnership’s (BHP) Children’s Health Leadership Team. She has developed a partnership between Cleveland Clinic School-Based Health Care and Early Head Start child care centers to expand lead screenings to children under 3 years of age. She provides education about lead poisoning prevention in various media outlets, including print, live, and recorded interviews and webinars.
