Updated guidelines for submitting your proposal

When submitting proposals to your PASA Unit for review and submission, the proposal must be final and ready for submission. If it is incomplete and beyond the three-day deadline, the PI will need to submit a three-day exception request for approval. If you are still making substantive changes to your proposal, you are not ready for a PASA review.

Proposal Guidance

The PASA reviewers have noticed several common mistakes in the proposals that we would like to bring to your attention. Before submitting your proposal for final review and submission, please make sure to double check the following common mistakes:

  1. Misspellings and incorrect word usage
  2. Jargon
  3. Punctuation issues and other grammatical errors
  4. Formatting issues within the proposal sections, such as:
    • Improper font size and type
    • Cramped spacing of narrative paragraphs, causing the proposal to be illegible and appear unorganized
    • Noncompliance with the sponsors formatting requirements (especially true for the NSF)
  5. Poorly positioned graphics and data charts within the proposal section, causing the visual aids to be difficult to read and review
  6. Inadequate budget justifications, such as
    • The budget justification does not provide enough information for each budget category of the application to support the requested amount, or
    • Budget categories are not always being justified. Items included in the budget should not appear superfluous to the scope of the project.
