About the Program

When you earn your LLM at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, you not only join a top-ranked program for academics and student experience—you also join a global network of students and alumni from more than 80 countries. Through classes taught by leading experts in the field, we equip international students for the challenges of practicing law in a society that demands a firm grasp of cross-border interests and implications of a nation’s laws. And with multiple degree options and specialties, you’ll study what best suits your professional needs while learning to communicate effectively with lawyers and clients around the world.

What to Expect

We offer four 24-credit degree options to best match your interests, with LLMs in:

  • U.S. and Global Legal Studies: ideal for students interested in U.S. and International law who hope to improve their legal research, writing, analytical skills, and for those interested in taking a US bar exam.
  • Intellectual Property Law: aimed at those interested in the doctrine and policy of U.S. intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.
  • International Business Law: suited for students focused on academic analysis and practical applications of U.S. business law and international business transactions.
  • International Criminal Law: provides in-depth knowledge of international criminal law and procedure, international humanitarian law and national security law.

Plus, we offer an LLM in International Commercial Law and Dispute Resolution—a joint program with Southwest University of Political Science and Law in which students spend two years in China taking courses and one year in Cleveland—culminating in master’s degrees from both universities.

Beyond the Classroom

No matter which program you choose, you can expand your one-year degree through our LLM+ option, adding a third or fourth semester for an externship with a law firm or corporate office of general counsel, and/or for more courses to help you prep for a U.S. bar exam.

And before your program even begins, you’ll have the chance to take part in our Summer Language and Law Institute to broaden and polish your English communication skills, while introducing you to American common law practice.

Want to be involved outside the classroom—and maybe even gain some hands-on experience? We offer a wide range of law student organizations where you can get active in the areas that interest you most.
