About the Program

Expand your career in dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Medicine/Master of Science in Clinical Research Training dual degree from ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½. Our curriculum prepares you for a lifetime of professional advancement using evidence-based methods in the practice of dentistry for a career in academics and/or the private/public sector.

Our five-year program will expand your understanding of how science and healthcare intersect while deepening your comprehension of a dentist's responsibility to their patients, community and society.

What to Expect

By design, our dual-degree program prioritizes the use of scientific advancements to solve clinical problems. This, in turn, will allow you to develop innovative approaches to diagnosing, treating and preventing oral disease.

In this five-year program, the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) curriculum requirements will not change, and you will have the opportunity to double count six of the required 141.5 credit hours—including didactic, laboratory and clinical work—toward your master's program. The master’s in clinical research training requires 36 credit hours total, including core curriculum, the six credits transferred from the DMD coursework, one elective and research work culminating in a thesis project.

As a dual-degree student, you will have access to our expert faculty, an advisor and a mentor. Upon graduating, you will be capable of conducting clinical and translational research investigating oral health problems and disparities from an individual, family and community perspective.

Quick Fact
During your dedicated clinical research training year, you will receive tuition support (approximately $21,000), stipend support ($20,772), and health insurance. In addition, you will also receive travel funding to attend a national conference, where you'll present your research.

Beyond the Classroom

ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ and Cleveland Clinic opened their shared Health Education Campus in 2019. The centerpiece of the campus is the Sheila and Eric Samson Pavilion, where dental, medical, nursing, physician assistant and other health-focused students study, learn and work together.

Directly across from Samson Pavilion is ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½â€™s dental clinic. Through the clinic, dental students and faculty members serve more than 19,000 patients each year who receive low-cost dental services. The building offers a spacious, modern place for dental students to gain clinical experience under faculty supervision.
