Today's U.S. Supreme Court Admissions Decision

To the ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Community,

Today, the United States Supreme Court issued rulings in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard and Students for Fair Admissions v. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that sharply curb the use of race as a factor in admissions by American colleges and universities.

ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ will, of course, comply with the law. We also will remain steadfast in our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. We know that positive student outcomes and excellence in education at all levels depend on learning environments that prioritize these core values. Our holistic approach to admissions has led to a vibrant blend of students representing many racial, cultural, sexual, religious and gender identities.

Moving forward, we will continue to improve access to a ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ education, especially for those who have been negatively impacted by systemic inequities. We will continue to support all members of our student body so that students receive the support they need to thrive at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ and beyond.

Above all, we will continue to celebrate diversity and the richness it brings to our campus community and to the world.

For those who wish to learn more about the Supreme Court’s decision on this case, the School of Law is hosting a webinar on Monday, July 17, from 5 to 6:15 p.m. You can access it on .

Additionally, the Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusive Engagement will host a listening session on Thursday, July 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Senior Classroom at the Tinkham Veale University Center. The purpose of the listening session is to help community members process what the decision means in practical terms and to provide an opportunity to express our commitment to inclusion.

Sincerely,

Eric W. Kaler
