Support for Our University Community: Oct. 13, 2023

To Our ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Community,

Since I wrote to you on Monday, we have all seen in greater and sickening detail the level of terrorist violence by Hamas against Israel, including the murder of men, women, and children and the kidnapping of civilian hostages. The scale of this terrorism is stunning, and therefore I will join with many in our community in a public denunciation of Hamas that will appear in this Sunday’s Plain Dealer.

I know that many of us—our faculty, staff, students, alumni and community partners—have family, friends and colleagues impacted by this war who are facing grief, pain and suffering. We are here to support you. We all support the right to free speech and expression, but there is no room for hate or intolerance within our campus community.

For those in need, please do not hesitate to reach out to ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½â€™s free counseling services at any time, day or night. Students can reach University Counseling Services at 216.368.5872 or online at ; faculty and staff counseling services are available through IMPACT solutions, the university’s Employee Assistance Provider, at 800.227.6007 or .

I close with the wish that, in these most terrible of times, we find ways to treat each other with respect and grace, and pray for a time when peace will embrace the region.
