Electrical Block of Neural Activity
We seek a highly-motivated individual to pursue neural engineering research in a supportive and
collaborative environment. Our goal is to advance bioelectronic medicines: electrical stimulation,
block, and recording of peripheral nerves for disease treatment and restoration of function.
The successful applicant will combine computational modeling, engineering optimization, and in
vivo experiments to advance understanding and application of electrical block of neural activity.
The applicant will also gain exposure to other projects in the lab, spanning from modeling to
translational clinical studies and including deep brain stimulation, spinal cord stimulation, peripheral
stimulation for bladder control, and non-invasive brain stimulation. The strong interdisciplinary and
collaborative environment at Duke is ideal for continued scientific and professional development.

Success candidates must…
• Hold a PhD in engineering, neuroscience, physiology, physics, or computer science
• Be a proficient programmer and experience in Python, MATLAB, NEURON, COMSOL, and / or git are assets
• Be familiar with neural biophysics and the fundamental principles of neural engineering
• Have excellent informal and formal written and oral communication skills
• Be capable of balancing independent research progress with collaboration and team work
• Bring curiosity, enthusiasm, and initiative!
