Dr. Rowland-Seymour is an Associate Professor of Medicine, having joined the School of Medicine at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2016.
Dr. Rowland-Seymour received her BA from Amherst College with Honors in Chemistry and Black Studies in 1993. She went on to earn an MD in 1997 from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and subsequently completed her residency in Internal Medicine/Primary Care at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City in 2000.
Throughout medical school and residency Dr. Rowland-Seymour maintained an interest in combining allopathic medical practices with less conventional evidence-based healing techniques, all to provide the best possible care to patients. To this end, she pursued a two-year residential fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the foremost Program in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona in Tucson. During her fellowship she focused her clinical training and research agenda on nutrition, nutritional supplements, osteopathic manipulation, and hypnosis. She subsequently became certified and achieved Approved Consultant status in the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. In addition to this certification, Dr. Rowland-Seymour is double boarded in Internal Medicine and Integrative Medicine.
Subsequent to her fellowship, Dr. Rowland-Seymour joined the Division of Internal Medicine at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse where she was a Clinician Educator as well as the Associate Medical Director of the residency clinic. After three years at SUNY Upstate she joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where she stayed for 9.5 years. While at Johns Hopkins Dr. Rowland-Seymour practiced clinically in Integrative Medicine as well as Internal Medicine and had the great fortune to pursue her love of medical education. There she was integrally involved in medical student and resident education as well as inter-professional education. Immediately prior to transitioning away from Hopkins, she was awarded a Teaching Award from the Institute of Educational Excellence at Johns Hopkins.
At ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ in the PA program, Dr. Rowland-Seymour has been core faculty and the Director of Preventive Medicine and Community Health Engagement which allowed her the opportunity to utilize her Integrative Medicine expertise in preparing our PA students to care for their future patients from a unique perspective. In response to her changing role in the School of Medicine, Dr. Rowland-Seymour shifted her support of the PA program to become the Medical Director. She just accepted an additional role as Assistant Dean for Longitudinal Clinical Programs where she will oversee the four-year clinical education of our medical students including all pre-clerkship clinical skills development. This role in the medical school allows Dr. Rowland-Seymour opportunities to foster greater interprofessional interactions between medical students and PA students.
