ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½-UHC Residents and Attending Physicians in the Teaching Kitchen

On Wednesday June 12, 2024 the ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½-University Hospitals Cleveland (ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½-UHC) Family and Preventive Medicine resident and attending physicians had the amazing opportunity to embark on a culinary medicine didactic. Historically, physicians haven’t received much training in nutrition. However, several of the ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½-UHC residents are engaged in the lifestyle medicine residency curriculum and are learning how to educate patients on lasting lifestyle changes for better health - including nutrition! Through a micro-grant from the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, the medical residents were provided funds to purchase whole food plant based ingredients. Even more exciting, these physicians were given the unique opportunity to host this culinary medicine event in ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½'s state-of-the-art teaching kitchen under the guidance of the Dept of Nutrition faculty. The medical residents were incredibly grateful for the nutrition faculty's assistance on preparing these delicious (and surprisingly easy!!) plant-based recipes! This collaboration between medicine and nutrition quickly came together through the efforts of the Department of Nutrition Chair, Dr. Hope Barkoukis, and her faculty and staff, namely, Lindsay Malone and Julia Kucmanic; on the Preventive Medicine side, PGY-3 Preventive Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine resident, Dr. Zenobia Tayeb, worked closely with Dr. Barkoukis and the Family Medicine residents to ensure a successful culinary medicine didactic event!
