Nurses Poised to Take the Lead on Ensuring Patient Safety in U.S. Health Care System

Dr. Dolansky states that 鈥渕edical error is already the third-leading cause of death in the United States,鈥 citing a   reporting that medical errors trailed only heart disease and cancer as killers鈥攁lthough human or system error is rarely reported on death certificates because it doesn鈥檛 fit an international classification for diseases. 鈥淭he workload and complexity of the work for nurses has skyrocketed, and we are taking the lead in addressing errors head-on鈥攆or the benefit of the patient.鈥
