What is your undergraduate major?

Biomedical Engineering

What contributed to your decision to pursue a bioethics education at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½?

The first bioethics class I took was a dilemmas class with Dr. Knopes. This class introduced me to many issues in the world of medicine which I had not previously considered. Dr. Knopes made this class fun and informative, and her passion for the subject made me interested in learning more and drove me to pursue a minor in bioethics.

What has been the most impactful or your favorite part of the program so far?

My favorite part of the bioethics program has been studying abroad in the Netherlands while taking Death, Dying, and Euthanasia. This class taught me so much about end of life care and the considerations that go into decisions surrounding death. Being able to hear from physicians in the Netherlands and learn about their unique views and experiences was such a special opportunity that I would not have had without being part of the bioethics program.

What are your plans for after graduation and how will you utilize the skills and knowledge learned in this program, to pursue those goals?

Post-graduation, I intend to pursue a PhD in electrical engineering with a focus on wearable device research. Completing a minor in bioethics and medical humanities has taught me so much about user interaction and the user experience using medical devices and interacting with the medical system. I have learned about the potential ethical impacts of advanced medical technology, particularly as it pertains to devices worn on a person. This knowledge will be invaluable to me as I move into wearable device research.
