Project Background:
- The Preservation Services team has discovered a large cache of previously digitized objects that lack identifying information.
- The files, which are mostly scans of books in the KSL collections, require processing before they can be ingested for online access and digital preservation.
- This project will suit someone who can do repetitive tasks with sustained accuracy, has high organizational skills, and enjoys a digital treasure hunt.
- There may be opportunities to assist in other parts of the digital preservation process and to learn about the growing field of digital preservation!
Responsibilities:
- Locate existing information about recovered digital objects
- Obtain records or other metadata for the items
- Perform basic digital preservation processing, such as recording technical information and running OCR (optical character recognition)
- Confirm if items are currently in Digital Case, KSL’s digital library
Required Skills:
- Ability to conduct repetitive tasks with accuracy
- Attention to detail is essential for this position
- Familiarity with Excel or other spreadsheet software
- Experience searching and navigating library catalogs, discovery platforms, or repositories
Hours Needed: 10-20 hours, in blocks of time of two hours or more, Monday - Friday between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Hourly Rate: Undergraduate $12.22; Graduate $12.65
