Goal

To comply with OSHA regulations that all employees using or potentially exposed to human bloodborne pathogens must receive hepatitis B vaccination or sign a declination as set forth in . The relevant regulation can be viewed in its entirety on the .

Detailed Procedures

Staff Hires

  1. Job descriptions must clearly disclose that this policy applies.
  2. As soon as an offer of employment is accepted, Human Resources will refer the employee to the for administering the vaccine or completing the declination statement.
  3. The hiring department will be charged for the vaccination cost at no cost to the employee.
  4. The Employment Office will notify Environmental Health and Safety of new employees covered under this policy and procedure by forwarding a copy of the employment requisition form. University Health and Counseling Services will transmit appropriate records to Environmental Health and Safety as required by the OSHA regulation.

Student Employees 

  1. The office of Student Employment will refer the employee to the for administering the vaccine or completing the declination statement.
  2. The hiring department will be charged for the vaccination cost at no cost to the employee.
  3. The office of Student Employment will notify Environmental Health and Safety of new employees covered under this policy and procedure by forwarding the appropriate information. will transmit appropriate records to EHS as required by the OSHA regulation.
