Vincent D. Holland was born in Glenville and has called the neighborhood home for the past 43 years. In his time as a Glenville resident, he has lived in the same city block as two Cleveland mayors—Ralph S. Locher and Michael R. White. Holland fell in love with the community when he was teaching swim lessons and lifeguarding at the Glenville YMCA/YWCA in order to save money for his undergraduate and graduate education.
Professionally, Holland is a retired Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor who was the chief probation officer for the Cuyahoga County Adult Probation Department, where he worked for 33 years. Holland has written several reports and articles pertaining to criminal justice issues. He also has served on a number of boards dedicated to social justice reform issues including the ADAMHS-Board, Community Action Against Addiction, Cuyahoga County's Community Based Correctional Facility and the State Board of Developmental Disabilities. Holland is a frequent speaker on social justice reform issues and has presented testimony at the State, County and local levels. He has been a lecturer and adjunct professor in the Sociology Department at Cuyahoga Community College and he also has taught at Cleveland State University’s Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs.
Holland earned his bachelor’s degree, master’s in public administration and his doctorate in urban affairs and public administration from Cleveland State University. He also holds a master’s degree in sociology from ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, where today, he serves as treasurer for the university’s African American Alumni Association.
