Luke Osborn grew up dreaming of a career in baseball. While unsuccessful in chasing that dream at the University of Arkansas, he chose to study engineering as an undergraduate student because he liked building things and wanted to learn how they worked.
That鈥檚 when he realized a new passion鈥攄esigning and building robots that could help people. That new passion drove him to pursue a master鈥檚 and PhD in biomedical engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
鈥淢y favorite thing about engineering was realizing that I had the tools to design, create, and build new things,鈥 he shared.
Now, Osborn is an assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and is focused on neuroengineering, biomedical instrumentation, wearable devices, human function and performance, sensory perception and human-machine interfaces. He will teach classes like Principles of Biomedical Instrumentation where he is eager to cover sensors that connect with humans to measure physiological signals.
鈥淚 like hands-on approaches to building circuits and sensors,鈥 he said. 鈥淭he learning experience is a lot more exciting when you can actually see what happens when you plug in your power supply backwards.鈥
What are you most looking forward to at 星空传媒?
Meeting new people, growing exciting research collaborations, and the lovely winters I hear so much about.
Do you have any personal goals, hobbies, family, interests that you would like to share?
I like cycling, sailing, and being outdoors (hiking, running, etc).
