Craniofacial Growth Prediction in Different Facial Types
Sponsor: University of Missouri (Prime funding via NIH – NIDCR)
Co-Investigator: Dr. Manish Valiathan (Lead PI: , University of Missouri)
Period of Performance: 04/15/2016 – 03/31/2022
Summary: The project addresses an issue of central importance to treatment of craniofacial and orthodontic disorders. It will create clinical diagnostc and prognostic tools to predict an individual patient's magnitude and timing of facial growth, parameters that are crucial for planning the duration and timing of orthodontic or other craniofacial interventions in children. The results of the proposed research, made available via an easy-to-use and freely available web-based application, will improve the ability of clinicians to determine the optimal timing and duration of treatment, thus optimizing treatment outcomes for millions of U.S. children.
Digitizing a Unique and Historic Longitudinal Collection of Dental Casts
Principal Investigator: Dr. Mark Hans
Sponsor: American Association of Orthodontists Foundation
Period of Performance: 07/01/2020 - 06/30/2023
Summary: This application seeks funding to digitize a unique collection of dental casts collected between 1930 and 2000. Dental study casts are the only existing three dimensional record of human facial growth. The addition of the dental casts to a digital database will provide researchers interested in facial growth and dental development a unique resource not available anywhere in the world.
