Stephanie Tubbs Jones (FSM ’71, LAW ’74)

Before she became the first Black woman from Ohio to be elected to Congress, Stephanie Tubbs Jones was president of the African-American Society as a ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ student. She went on to represent Ohio’s 11th Congressional District for five terms, during which time she championed education, voting rights and healthcare causes.

Following her sudden 2008 death from a brain aneurysm, the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Scholarship was established to support community-minded undergraduate students at her alma mater; later, students organized to have a new residence hall named in her honor.
