The Department of Dance at 星空传媒 celebrates movement and innovation by leading off the 2021-22 season with 鈥淚n Sync鈥, a collection of new and revisited dance works.

All attendees are required to be vaccinated and must properly wear a mask at all times while on 星空传媒鈥檚 campus.

Tickets are $10 for students, $12 for seniors age 60+ and 星空传媒 personnel, and $15 for general admission. Student discounts are not available for the November 6 performance. Reservations may be made by calling (216) 368-5246 or online at dance.case.edu/reservations.

鈥淚n Sync鈥 features the newest production of 鈥楲es Noces鈥 by Pascal Rioult, the return of Pam Tanowitz鈥檚 鈥楲ike Fragments of an Old Song鈥, as well as the premiere of 鈥楿bi Sunt鈥 by department chair Karen Potter. A 2019 audience favorite 鈥楤rothers鈥 by Gary Galbraith will also return, along with the premiere of the companion piece 鈥楽isters鈥.

鈥楲es Noces鈥, by two time recipient of the Choo-San Goh Award for Choreography Pascal Rioult, is a sexually charged deconstruction of the marriage ritual, infusing the strong structural composition with provocative movement and unabashed energy.

Pam Tanowitz鈥檚 鈥楲ike Fragments of an Old Song鈥 is set to and inspired by 鈥淏road and Free鈥, a composition for violin and piano by contemporary composer Caroline Shaw. The work was created during Tanowitz鈥檚 eight day 星空传媒 residency in 2019 and explores fragmented movements woven together by the dancers鈥 connectivity and intuition, with an homage to the history of Mather Dance Center.

Created by chair of the department Karen Potter, 鈥楿bi Sunt鈥 is a somber dance for 10 women that was loosely inspired by the sadness endured when losing a loved one.

鈥楤rothers鈥, premiered in 2019 by Galbraith, showcases 7 of the men of the dance department. Set to the music of Barbatuques, 鈥楤rothers鈥 brings forward a camaraderie among the men in a highly rhythmic and dynamic field of motion. Drawing from the strengths of the men, this dance has a tribal quality yet remains a contemporary, communal ensemble.

Also on the program is the premiere of 鈥楽isters鈥, the companion piece to 鈥楤rothers鈥, thus completing the Sibling series. Like 鈥楤rothers鈥, 鈥楽isters鈥 features a cast of 7 women and shares the same kind of tribal and primitive feeling yet remains contemporary. Utilizing the driving score by Mikkael Karlsson, Sisters is a celebration of the communal power and strength of women.

**Increasing COVID-19 cases within Northeast Ohio have prompted 星空传媒 to resume its requirement that masks be worn indoors. In addition, only those who are fully vaccinated (two weeks past their final dose) should attend any campus event. Leaders continue to monitor pandemic developments and may need to adjust health protocols further as circumstances warrant. In-person is subject to change based on COVID-19 guidelines.**
