The Department of Dance Presents MaDaCol Fall 2023

MaDaCol Photo Fall 2023

The Department of Dance at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ is pleased to announce this fall’s production of MaDaCol (Mather Dance Collective). Performances are on November 30, December 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m.

MaDaCol, one of the university’s oldest undergraduate student organizations, offers an important creative outlet for ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, staff, and greater Cleveland community members. The performance will feature new dance works by second-year graduate students Claire Christie and Zhaonian Li and first-year graduate Mikayla Heinrich-Wong.

Here + Now, choreographed by Mikayla Heinrich-Wong, was done in collaboration with 14 dancers and is set to music by Sylvian Chauveau.  It explores relationships between being preoccupied with the future and focusing on the present. Heinrich-Wong uses these concepts, in addition to the music, to generate a kinetic response that serves as a guide to creating connections among the dancers.

Zhaonian Li’s new work Convergence of Souls is set to music by Nico Muhly, and unfolds through the transition from individuality to unity and the transformation from chaos to order. The work begins by portraying the chaos and vulnerability of individuals and gradually evolves into the emergence of a strong and unified group.

Claire Christie collaborates with 14 dancers to create a new work set to music by Zoë Keating. Sonder explores push and pull dynamics, coupled with kinesthetic reactions to the multiple layers of the music composition. This work communicates the idea of realizing every human has an inner world complex and unique as one’s own.
