Increasingly, many museum collections as seen through the lens of the 21st century are controversial, representing a shared history that is troubling, tragic and unresolved. An honest, open discussion about mission and museums’ collective responsibility to the truth, when so much of the American experience, as seen through our eyes, is on the “wrong side of history”.
