The Baker-Nord Center's fall programming explores the related concepts of appropriation and representation. Debates about the appropriation of food traditions, fashion, spiritual ceremonies and artifacts, language and writing by dominant groups saturate public discourse and have long been an area of humanistic inquiry. Similarly, institutional ways of representing and remembering individuals, communities and significant events often reveal hidden fault lines. How does the unequal expression of power shape the terrain of how we understand these subjects? Invited guests and the ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ community will explore this twinned theme with a focus on opportunities for fruitful engagement.
