One way our engineering students get a head-start in the field is through co-ops. During a co-op, students spend two semesters working in the industry as real engineers (and, yes, they get paid).  

What do you do on co-op? BIG things.

For example, biomedical engineering major Saloni Baral [pictured here] co-oped at Boston Scientific where she helped design, execute and analyze experiments to help develop a mechanical thrombectomy device and manufacture it (thrombectomy devices are used in surgery to remove blood clots from vessels).

“My role involves the design, execution, and analysis of investigational experiments,” she explains.

“These studies help us understand our device’s performance characteristics under various conditions while also informing our efforts to improve the process we use to manufacture our product.”

How’d she land such an impressive opportunity? Saloni is a member of �ǿմ�ý’s Society of Women Engineers and met with representatives from Boston Scientific while attending the organization’s national conference in Los Angeles.

Over 80% of �ǿմ�ý engineers have at least one internship. Nearly 30% participate in co-op.
