ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ engineers stay busy. They wouldn’t have it any other way. Because the opportunities available to them to get real experience in their field, pursue their interests, gain leadership experience and have fun with friends are too good to pass up.
That’s certainly the case for junior Sydney Schenk [pictured]. A mechanical engineering major and varsity athlete, Sydney came to ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ knowing that she wanted to pursue a career in engineering without having to give up on playing high-level soccer.
At ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, she’s thriving on and off the field.
- Sydney has completed a co-op at STERIS Endoscopy and two internships.
- She was also selected for ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½â€™s inaugural cohort of Veale Snyder Fellows, a program dedicated to helping future entrepreneurs dive deep into startup culture.
- And if that isn’t enough, she has contributed to the ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ community by helping to found the ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ chapter of , a national nonprofit dedicated to supporting mental wellness among athletes.
- She’s active in other campus activities, too, including corresponding secretary for the engineering fraternity Theta Tau.
“My engineering classes have been pretty tough so far, but they made me feel very fulfilled for getting through them. When taking my finals this semester, I was really proud of myself because I thought back to how much I’ve learned this semester (6 engineering classes - a lot of material!!) and I realized that this (Mechanical Engineering) is something I am and will continue to be successful in.â€
At ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, you’ll have opportunities to pursue all your goals and interests in and out of the classroom. Make friends, contribute to a community, strengthen your resume and build your network. The recruiters will be knocking at your door! I can’t wait to see you thrive.
