The Department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology has the long-term goal of strengthening and expanding the existing research program targeted at understanding the regulation of HIV transcription, molecular mechanisms underlying HIV reservoir formation and mechanisms of HIV persistence. We are guided by ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½'s vision which values excellence by advancing diversity through inclusive thinking, mindful learning and transformative dialogue. We recognize the need to increase representation in science, and we are interested in recruiting minorities to Case. As a Senior Instructor the successful candidate will prepare manuscripts and contribute preliminary data, background and significance and experimental design for grant proposals, and write, submit, and serve as Principal Investigator on grants and manuscripts. We encourage applications from highly qualified individuals with advanced experimental skills in molecular virology. Demonstrated experience in the studies of HIV latency and expertise in the use of primary cell models, cell imaging, ChIP assays, and proteomic analysis will be preferred.
Essential Functions
As a faculty member of the Department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology, the Senior Instructor will be required to demonstrate scholarship by the publications of manuscripts in leading journals in their field. They will be expected to interact productively with a nationally ranked team of basic and clinical scientists interested in the overall areas of HIV molecular virology and other viral infectious diseases. In addition, the Senior Instructor is also required to demonstrate national recognition of their work by being active in national meetings and in the academic society most closely aligned with their area of research. In addition to these activities, they will be required to secure funding for their position that will cover at least 50% of their salary by the completion of the third year of employment. Upon achieving this, the terms of their employment will be revisited, and they will be promoted to Assistant Professor, on the tenure track.
The Senior Instructor faculty member will continue to demonstrate an expert knowledge of their academic field and a commitment to continuing development of this competence and make satisfactory contributions to at least two of the three following: (i) teaching; (ii) a continuing program of research, and (iii) a willingness to assume a fair share of university administrative and service tasks. The Senior Instructor will divide their effort between research (80%), teaching (15%), and service (5%) for the first 5 years, which will support diversity and inclusion. The proportions of these may vary from year to year depending on, among other things, the needs of the Department and the School.
Qualifications
Education: PhD or MD degree in biology, chemistry or a related field
Experience: At least 5 years of postdoctoral training and have demonstrated a capacity for independent research and exhibit a high likelihood of attracting Federal funding. Experience in the biochemistry of transcription, molecular virology and/or gene expression in mammalian cells is essential. In addition, this project will require advanced experimental skills in HIV molecular virology including the use of primary cell models, cell imaging, ChIP assays, and proteomic analysis.
Strong expertise in the biochemistry of transcription, molecular virology and/or gene expression in mammalian cells is essential.
Application Instructions
Applicants are asked to submit a cover letter, CV, and diversity statement, explaining how their research, teaching, and/or service have contributed to diversity, equity, and inclusion within their scholarly field(s). This statement should also reflect on the ways in which the candidate’s continued efforts will foster a culture of diversity, pluralism, and individual difference at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ into the future. All application materials should be submitted via Interfolio at . Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ strives to maintain a diverse and inclusive work environment. All applicants are protected under Federal law from discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age and genetics.
ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities. Applicants requiring a reasonable accommodation for any part of the application and hiring process should contact the Office of Equity by phone at 216.368.3066 or by email at equity@case.edu. Determinations as to granting reasonable accommodations for any applicant will be made on a case-by-case basis.
