Post-doctoral Fellow - Medicine / Institute for Transformative Molecular Medicine School: Medicine

Date:  July 2024

Title: Post-doctoral Fellow

Department: Medicine / Institute for Transformative Molecular Medicine School: Medicine

Location: 4th floor - Wolstein Research Building, 2103 Cornell Road

Supervisor Name and Title: Atul Chopra, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Medicine

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Chopra lab discovered the fasting induced hormone asprosin that controls important aspects of mammalian physiology such as appetite, thirst, cognition, and glucose homeostasis (Cell 2016; Nature Medicine 2017; Cell Metabolism 2022, Nature Neuroscience 2024). Current effort in the lab is focused on the neuroscience of asprosin action and on understanding how asprosin is secreted from adipose tissue in health and disease. The lab is also focused on identifying new hormones. Working under limited supervision, coordinate research work in biomedical environment to employ human genetics as an initial impetus but also specializes in basic biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, mouse genetics, physiology and neuroscience to enable the discovery process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop experimental design for research projects, carry out experiments at the bench and perform day-to-day data analysis. Amend research direction as necessary based on results and developments in the field. While maintaining meticulous records of experiments. (60%)
