The Biomedical Engineering Department (EBME) at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ (ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½)invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Biomedical Engineering at the Assistant Professor level. Extremely well-qualified applicants at senior levels will be considered on a case-bycase basis. This position is part of eight thematically-aligned, University-wide faculty hires over the next two years in the area of human – technology interaction as part of the Human Fusions Institute (HFI). Appointments will be considered for starting dates as early as July 1, 2023. All applicants must hold great promise for research leadership and grant funding, teaching excellence, and service contributions. They must also be committed to working with a diverse population of students. Candidates must have a PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering or related fields.
The search is focused on attracting the world’s top neural engineering faculty interest in expanding neural technology beyond medicine, into the broader human-technology future. The successful candidate will hold a primary academic appointment in EBME in the Case School of Engineering and their primary research will be within the Human Fusions Institute. HFI includes a 20,000 sq.ft. new multi-disciplinary, collaborative space opening in 2024. HFI will foster transdisciplinary collaboration across all the Schools at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ between faculty who share the same goal of redefining the future of human – technology interaction. In many instances, the candidate will be encouraged to hold secondary appointments in other academic units. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Highly effective and creative interfaces to the nervous system with particular interest in clinically viable approaches for brain, autonomic, and/or peripheral systems;
- Developing sensory restoration approaches, including vestibular, taste, smell, temperature, pain, touch, hearing, and sight;
- Developing novel methods of understanding/enhancing sensorimotor integration and/or learning of complex systems;
- Sensory neurophysiology or psychophysiology related to human-technology interactions;
- Autonomic system interfaces with interest in relationship to human-tech interaction.
